Pantone Colour of the Year

Pantone, the world leading advisor on what colour palette we will be using for the next 12 months, has decided that the 2018 colour of the year will be Ultra Violet 18-3838.

Yep, that’s right, Ultra Violet. Aka purple.

Of course, the first thing that sprang to mind when I heard this was my beloved rocker, Prince. My best friend and I have been listening to his music since we were teenagers. I once played Batdance at full volume all night when she had a 6am start the next morning. The only reason she didn’t kill me was because she loved that song so much! She even came to my 40th birthday, dressed as His Royal Purpleness. I do have a photo somewhere, but she may sue me if I use it without permission.

Anyway, back to this design trend. I’m trying to think how I can incorporate Ultra Violet into my light, bright, airy, neutral double-fronted Victorian.

I’ve had a brain wave. My daughter loves to bake, so how about the purple Kitchen Aid? But what then do we do with the red one we already have?

I guess the question is how can we do a lovely, tasteful purple?

There are ways it can be done. Think purple with a beautiful emerald, like a peacock. Add a bit of grey and even some aqua. Now we’re talking.

What about a purple couch? Anyone game?

Ok, so maybe not the couch, how about a wall then?

What are your thoughts on Ultra Violet 18-3838? Is it something that you will be using this year, or a one-hit wonder?
